Passionate paintings, pastel people, poignant prints and peculiar pots.
Helen sees the human form as the interface between the mental, emotional and spiritual processes and the external manifestation of the world. The complexity of the human experience is fascinating to her, and from this she is compelled and inspired to draw and paint her own representations, real life and imaginary.
Helen’s work is concerned with contrasts. Expansive canvases counterpoint with expressive ceramics. Riotously coloured paintings juxtapose with soulful black and white lino prints. Complex emotional sculptures vie with sketches that in a few lines create shape and drama.
A consummate draftsperson, observation and drawing skills are the foundation of all Helen’s visual and sculptural pieces. Her work exudes an understanding of human anatomy and emotion, with a consideration of how layers of knowledge can be transferred to different media.
Helen is influenced by movement all around and is consistently colourful and thought provoking.
